About

Eat. Walk. Etc. is a lifestyle blog about my life and the people, food, nooks and thoughts that fill it.

Inspiration you may ask?  It all began one day on a walk home from the Dupont Circle Farmer’s Market after an off the cuff, but sincere proclamation that I wanted to start buying local and seasonal ONLY.  The Farmer’s Market is one of my favorite places on earth and I love cooking so what would be so hard about making this lifestyle change right?  But… by dinner that night I knew I had an addiction… to tomatoes… as doubts clouded my head about this new standard of living I realized that it was going to take more than a half-assed statement to really give up these little beauties during the long “off-season”.

While thumbing through seasonal recipes online, an idea popped into my head.  Why not go Julie and Julia style and start a blog, putting my recipes and experiences out there in public, therefore forcing me to follow-up on my promise?  I had read the book, visited her site and seen the movie and while times were often trying, it looked like fun!

As I started to think about how I’d start this project up, my mind wandered to table settings and my home, then restaurants, then the walks to these havens of deliciousness and to the quirky things that made up my city and the joy that they brought me.  This is when the blog grew into a compilation of not just food, but my other favorite daily delights, aka the people I eat and enjoy with, walks and destinations and the other matter that fills the in-betweens.  I couldn’t leave out the juicy details and reasons why I choose to cook what I cook- the real soul and drive of this project.

So there you are and that’s my story.  Hope you enjoyed hearing a bit about me, Kate, as I look forward to hearing about you too!

ps:  The handsome man in the picture with me is Alec, my partner in crime.

disclaimer:  While all my recipes made at home will be seasonal, I couldn't give up my favorite restaurants in the city!  Many of the meals and restaurants mentioned may not serve all seasonally and/or locally.
